Nominated

We received notification the other day that ARTC’s Podcast has been nominated for a Parsec Award! We’re really thrilled about this (since we didn’t nominate ourselves) and are putting together the materials to formally submit ourselves for consideration. Thanks!

Getting Involved
Part 2

In the last newsletter, I asked everyone to put down their excuses and get involved in ARTC. Since then we’ve gotten responses from folks in South Carolina, Washington, Ireland, and Georgia (the country, not the state)!

Also, hits to our website have gone up nearly 50%! So this is a big thank you to those of you who responded, those of you who helped get the word out even if you didn’t write to us, and those of you who are still getting around to writing.

For that last group there, what are you waiting for? Write to us and help us create Adventures in Sound!

Studio Recordings

The studio projects are proceeding nicely! We have completed voice work for Rory Rammer, Space Marshal: The Colour of the Shadow of the Outsider Over the Mountain of Madness Out of Space by Ron N. Butler and Nothing-at-All by Kelley S. Ceccato.

Several other titles are in various states of completion as well, and more are slated to begin very soon. And now…a few weeks (months?) of editing…

And don’t forget our already extensive catalog!

Think CDs are old hat?
Getting Involved

We mention this from time to time, but we really need help. Yes, that kind, too, but I mean your help. We have a ton of fun creating audio drama and we’re ready to expand our audience. In order to do that, we need people who want to have fun creating audio drama, too!

Specifically we need people who can help with Foley sound effects, technical setups, marketing, production, production assistants, and fundraising. And acting. Some of our techies started out as actors and found they really enjoyed the technical side of things.

Now…we have pretty good ears and we can hear you saying now "I don’t know how to do any of that stuff." And that’s ok, because until we started actually doing it, neither did we. Seriously, most of us learned (and are learning) about the craft of audio drama by the seat of our pants and with the help of seasoned professionals and keep getting better through experience and practice.

Don’t live near the Atlanta area? No worries. Thanks to the magic of the Internet there’s still stuff you can do to help.

So put down that excuse and contact us about starting the next exciting thing in your life. There’s no commitment, but there’s also no pay…people come and go as their schedules allow, and we think that once you stop by the first time you’ll be hooked.

You’ll be glad you did. And we will, too.

Studio Recordings

We’re deep into studio territory having laid down tracks for bits and pieces of several of the scripts on our slate for this season. Mass editing will commence shortly!

And don’t forget our already extensive catalog!

Live Performances

Thanks to everyone who made The Last Dragon to Avondale a huge success for us! We met a bunch of wonderful new people and were reunited with some old ones who we hadn’t seen in a while and the verdict seems to be that it was one of our best shows ever.

We’d especially like to thank Paul Mercer and Brad Weage for their musical performances in The House Across the Way. We’ll be taking this piece into the studio this spring and if the live performance is anything to go by, the formal recording is going to be spectacular. Also, Rooke was amazing!

We also successfully raised money to benefit the Georgia Aquarium! Final tallys are still being done, but it looks like we raised somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 to help them with their research into endangered and threatened species.

Next up:
LibertyCon, July 9-11
Programming: The Competitor by Brad Linaweaver and Time and Time Again by H. Beam Piper
Dragon*Con, September 3-6
Programming: To be announced!

Studio Recordings

With our live season concluded for the time being, we are completing final preparations for our return to Audio Craft Studio to work with recording wizard Henry Howard on our next batch of material for CD and Audible.com.

In The Last Dragon to Avondale, Thomas E.
ARTC is pleased to benefit the Georgia Aquarium in their own study of endangered species and species survival through the 4R Program by contributing 25% of total ticket sales to this cause.

Happy New Year! Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter, published on or around the first Tuesday of each month! The disclaimer fulfills its purpose this month as a variety of things conspired to keep your newsletter unpublished, but things are back on track now…

The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let’s begin with news about…

Thanks!
We say it, but it bears repeating. Thanks to everybody who listens and keeps the spirit of imagination alive. Remember, we’re here for you, so feel free to write and let us know how we’re doing. We love fan mail, constructive criticism, and suggestions for how we can improve.

ARTC on the air!
As reported in our Station Identification supplemental newsletter, after years of having to shuffle our feet awkwardly whenever asked the question “What station are you on?” we finally have a legitimate answer!

ARTC can now be found on WGUN, 1010AM, here in Atlanta on Saturdays and Sundays at 7:00pm. Tune in Saturday nights for our as-yet-untitled comedy half-hour and then again on Sunday nights for Into the Labyrinth, a festival of horror, suspense, science fiction, and the macabre. There’s going to be lots of Lovecraft, Heinlein, and some material that hasn’t yet made its way into the studio yet.

Can’t pick the station up where you live? Stream the broadcast online!

We’re really excited about this opportunity. Look for more announcements and information as the shows evolve. Oh, and if you have a suggestion for what to call the comedy half-hour, send it our way!

Live Performances:
ARTC’s next live performance will be at Chattacon on January 23 where we will bring you A Ship Named Francis by John Ringo and Victor Mitchell, adapted for audio by Daniel Taylor. One of our most popular recent adaptations, which has received rave reviews at LibertyCon and Dragon*Con.

Also included in the Chattacon show will be Rory Rammer: The Angel of Destruction and SWATting the Books, both by Ron N. Butler.

In March we’ll wrap up the Academy Theatre 2009-2010 season with The Last Dragon to Avondale (also on Audible.com)by Thomas E.
More details to be included in future newsletters. As always, expect more great audio drama and occasional musical guests at these public performances!

Studio Productions:
We’re in pre-production now for our most ambitious studio schedule in years. Been to a live performance or heard the podcast and wonder why some of that great material isn’t available on CD yet? We’re going to correct that. And we’re looking to speed up the production cycle with our new sound effects library and some new studio techniques. Some of the stuff you can look forward to in the coming year?

The Call of Cthulhu and The Colour Out of Space by H. P. Lovecraft, adapted for audio by Ron N. Butler
Nothing-at-All and The Worst Good Woman in the World by Kelley S. Ceccato
The Brotherhood of Damn Sassy Mutants by Sketch MacQuinor
and much, much more!

And don’t forget our already extensive catalog!
Think CDs are old hat? ARTC is available by download at Audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon!

ARTC Podcast:
The ARTC podcast for December featured a really low-key podcast with a bit of holiday poetry by Doug Kaye and a touching song by Juliana Finch!
Atlanta Radio Theatre Company returns to the Atlanta airwaves!
After years of having to shuffle our feet awkwardly whenever asked the question “What station are you on?” we finally have a legitimate answer!

Live Performance Season Isn’t Over!
Thanks to everybody who came out to see An Atlanta Christmas! We raised nearly a hundred dollars for the Center for the Visually Impaired here in Atlanta. But we’re not done yet! Our host performance space, the Academy Theatre, is producing Felice Ramadan, a holiday vaudville extravaganza made up of contributions from their resident companies and ARTC is taking part with Sketch MacQuinor’s hilarious Blue Hanukchristmas Carol. It runs December 11-20, which means there’s only one weekend left. See it performed live and get in on this irreverent, offbeat look at the holidays.

Shopping Season Isn’t Over Either
Give the gift of imagination this year with ARTC! Quality studio recordings are available by mail order at artc.org and by download at Audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon.

Breaking Radio Silence - The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company Newsletter

Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter, published on or around the first Tuesday of each month! The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let’s begin with news about…

The Holidays
Whether it’s Christmas, Hannukah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, or even Giftmas, it’s that time of year again. The time of year when ARTC puts on An Atlanta Christmas, people get pressured by retailers to spend money, and there’s lots of pretty lights around.

Speaking of spending money…

Audio drama makes a great gift. Seriously, give the gift of imagination and Adventure in Sound this season. There are three great ways to get our stuff.

Come see An Atlanta Christmas live! We’ll have CDs for sale in the lobby at the Academy Theatre. See the below show announcement for time and admission details.

This is our favorite method, because it means we get to see our fans in person!

Mail order! Now, obviously, this is a bit more time-sensitive. If you want your stuff to arrive by Christmas then I’d recommend you head on over to artc.org right now!

Audible.com. This is for folks who want the immediacy of a download or who wait until the last minute to pick out a gift.

ARTC’s stuff

Gift Certificates

And don’t forget Woodrow’s Mercantile (hosted by Cafe Press) for all your ARTC apparel needs!

Got other things on your list besides audio drama? You can still help us out! If you plan to buy anything from Amazon.com, head on over to artc.org FIRST and click on the ad down at the bottom (or just use that Amazon link to the left there). You’ll go straight to Amazon’s site, ARTC will get a portion of any money you spend at Amazon, and it doesn’t cost you one red cent!

Happy holidays!

Live Performances:
ARTC’s next live performance will be at the Academy Theatre on December 5 and 6 where we will once again bring you An Atlanta Christmas by Thomas E. Fuller. If you’ve never heard this one, then you’re in for a real Southern treat as we bring you a regional look at the holidays throughout history. Brimming with that unique Southern perspective, An Atlanta Christmas will bring back memories of Christmases past, our city’s past, and our past in this family-friendly celebration of the season.

Welcome, welcome one and all to our family Christmas! To every family Christmas that ever was or ever will be! Behold the traditional Christmas tree weighted down with ornaments and decorations! Every five year old’s Christmas morning writ large and come true!

For one day a year, the Theater of the Mind gives way to a warm hearth and a bowl of gingerbread – and when from the roof there arises a clatter, it’s neither a faceless monster nor a Martian.

It’s Christmas.

And as an added bonus, we’ll also be participating in the Academy Theatre’s production of Felice Ramadan, A Holiday Vaudeville. A variety of takes on the winter holidays… Comedy, radio theater, dance, & Thimblerig all are part of the mix as we celebrate in a whole new way! All of the Academy’s membership companies have been invited to participate in this event! ARTC’s contribution? Sketch MacQuinor’s Blue Hanukchristmas Carol!

In January we’ll be returning to Chattacon (programming to be announced) and in March we’ll wrap up the Academy Theatre season with The Last Dragon to Avondale (also on Audible.com)by Thomas E.
Studio Productions:
Sadly, we didn’t make the deadline for having the CD of An Atlanta Christmas for the holidays this year. Our desire to bring you a quality product won out over our desire to make a quick buck on the season.

We are still planning studio time for the new year, though, so look for all kinds of goodies to be released soon!

And don’t forget our already extensive catalog!

Think CDs are old hat? ARTC is available by download at Audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon!

ARTC Podcast:
The ARTC podcast for November featured, fresh from our Dragon*Con show, the second part of The Call of Cthulhu by H. P. Lovecraft, adapted for audio by Ron N. Butler. If you missed it at Dragon*Con AND at the Academy Theatre, here’s your chance. But I have to tell you…we really missed you at those shows. Up next for December, a really low-key podcast that will feature a bit of holiday poetry by Doug Kaye and a touching song by Juliana Finch!

Tune in on the second Thursday of each month at 8pm for more free audio drama from ARTC!

A bunch of big-name actors have gotten together to do a full-on audio adaptation of the Bible. Could this be what it takes to make audio drama popular in the US again?

It’s the holidays! Time to break out the standard Christmas carols, right? Sure. Just try these on for size.
Off-dial Programming:

One of ARTC’s favorite musical guests, Juliana Finch, is touring around the country. Full tour calendar here!

Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter, published on or around the first Tuesday of each month! The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let’s begin with news about…

Studio Productions:
We’re working hard to have An Atlanta Christmas on CD and Audible.com by the holidays. Other titles nearing completion include Throne of Shadows, Country of the Blind, and the return of Kissed by a Stranger. We’re also booking studio time for early next year.

What will we record? You tell us!

The Newsletter:
The first newsletter sent out via MailChimp was a smashing success! We’ve begun the process of replacing the subscription links that previously went to PHPList (our old provider) with links that go to the brand-spanking-new MailChimp signup form. As before, if you have any trouble let us know so we can make with the fixes.

Live Performances:
ARTC’s next live performance will be at the Academy Theatre on December 5 and 6 where we will once again bring you An Atlanta Christmas by Thomas E. Breaking Radio Silence - The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company Newsletter

Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter, published on or around the first Tuesday of each month! The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let’s begin with news about…

The Newsletter:
In our neverending quest to make this newsletter better for you and for ourselves, we’ve changed our distribution method once again. We were originally on YahooGroups (actually, we were with eGroups before Yahoo! acquired them) and then moved over to PHPList and now we are proud to announce we have stepped up to MailChimp! For the time being the PHPList signup form will remain in place and we will import new subscribers into MailChimp ourselves, but eventually we’ll be replacing that page with a brand new signup form full of chimpy goodness. Unlike our move from YahooGroups, existing subscribers will NOT have to resubscribe.

Live Performances:
ARTC’s next live performance will be at the Academy Theatre on October 24 and 25. If you missed The Call of Cthulhu at Dragon*Con, fear not…or actually fear a whole lot because it’s a horror piece…but what I mean is you can still see it at the next show. Also included will be Night Call by Brian Phillips and The Worst Good Woman in the World by Kelley S. Ceccato.

We will also be participating in the Free Night of Theatre! This is a nationwide event where theatres make seats available for FREE to encourage participation in the arts.

The giveaway has already started and many seats are already claimed, but stay tuned as many theatres will sometimes add seats as the event gets closer.

Check out the Free Night of Theatre website to see which theatres in your area are participating!

More details to be included in future newsletters. As always, expect more great audio drama and musical guests at these public performances!

Snippets from the Static:

We’re performing The Call of Cthulhu. This is the Scent of Cthulhu. (anybody who brings a bottle of this stuff to the show gets in free, seriously)

A sound cannon used against protesters. Adventure in Sound, yes, but not quite what we had in mind.

Watch out for us. Really. And we’ll watch out for you, too.

Off-dial Programming:

ARTC has had dozens, if not hundreds, of members in its run since 1984, and they don’t just do radio drama. Look for these ARTC members in performances around the Atlanta area…and beyond!
