Station Identification - The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company Supplemental Newsletter

Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC supplemental newsletter, published whenever there’s news that won’t wait for Breaking Radio Silence! These Station Identification newsletters will be few and far between, but sometimes we just can’t wait to tell you something. Like…

Atlanta Radio Theatre Company returns to the Atlanta airwaves!
After years of having to shuffle our feet awkwardly whenever asked the question “What station are you on?” we finally have a legitimate answer!

ARTC can now be found on WGUN, 1010AM, here in Atlanta on Saturdays and Sundays at 7:00pm. Tune in Saturday nights for our as-yet-untitled comedy half-hour and then again on Sunday nights for Into the Labyrinth, a festival of horror, suspense, science fiction, and the macabre. There’s going to be lots of Lovecraft, Heinlein, and some material that hasn’t yet made its way into the studio yet.

Can’t pick the station up where you live? Stream the broadcast at their website!

We’re really excited about this opportunity. Look for more announcements and information as the shows evolve. Oh, and if you have a suggestion for what to call the comedy half-hour, send it our way!

Live Performance Season Isn’t Over!
Thanks to everybody who came out to see An Atlanta Christmas! We raised nearly a hundred dollars for the Center for the Visually Impaired here in Atlanta. But we’re not done yet! Our host performance space, the Academy Theatre, is producing Felice Ramadan, a holiday vaudville extravaganza made up of contributions from their resident companies and ARTC is taking part with Sketch MacQuinor’s hilarious Blue Hanukchristmas Carol. It runs December 11-20, which means there’s only one weekend left. See it performed live and get in on this irreverent, offbeat look at the holidays.

Shopping Season Isn’t Over Either
Give the gift of imagination this year with ARTC! Quality studio recordings are available by mail order at artc.org and by download at Audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon.
There’s also Woodrow’s Mercantile! Merchandise and apparel that lets the world know that you have a brain and aren’t afraid to use it!

Breaking Radio Silence - The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company Newsletter

Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter, published on or around the first Tuesday of each month!  The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let’s begin with news about…

The Holidays
Whether it’s Christmas, Hannukah, Ramadan, Kwanzaa, or even Giftmas, it’s that time of year again. The time of year when ARTC puts on An Atlanta Christmas, people get pressured by retailers to spend money, and there’s lots of pretty lights around.

Speaking of spending money…

Audio drama makes a great gift. Seriously, give the gift of imagination and Adventure in Sound this season. There are three great ways to get our stuff.

And don’t forget Woodrow’s Mercantile (hosted by Cafe Press) for all your ARTC apparel needs!

Got other things on your list besides audio drama? You can still help us out! If you plan to buy anything from Amazon.com, head on over to artc.org FIRST and click on the ad down at the bottom (or just use that Amazon link to the left there). You’ll go straight to Amazon’s site, ARTC will get a portion of any money you spend at Amazon, and it doesn’t cost you one red cent!

Live Performances:
ARTC’s next live performance will be at the Academy Theatre on December 5 and 6 where we will once again bring you An Atlanta Christmas by Thomas E. Fuller. If you’ve never heard this one, then you’re in for a real Southern treat as we bring you a regional look at the holidays throughout history. Brimming with that unique Southern perspective, An Atlanta Christmas will bring back memories of Christmases past, our city’s past, and our past in this family-friendly celebration of the season.

Welcome, welcome one and all to our family Christmas! To every family Christmas that ever was or ever will be! Behold the traditional Christmas tree weighted down with ornaments and decorations! Every five year old’s Christmas morning writ large and come true! For one day a year, the Theater of the Mind gives way to a warm hearth and a bowl of gingerbread – and when from the roof there arises a clatter, it’s neither a faceless monster nor a Martian. It’s Christmas.

And as an added bonus, we’ll also be participating in the Academy Theatre’s production of Felice Ramadan, A Holiday Vaudeville. A variety of takes on the winter holidays… Comedy, radio theater, dance, & Thimblerig all are part of the mix as we celebrate in a whole new way!  All of the Academy’s membership companies have been invited to participate in this event! ARTC’s contribution? Sketch MacQuinor’s Blue Hanukchristmas Carol!

In January we’ll be returning to Chattacon (programming to be announced) and in March we’ll wrap up the Academy Theatre season with The Last Dragon to Avondale (also on Audible.com)by Thomas E. Fuller.

More details to be included in future newsletters. As always, expect more great audio drama and occasional musical guests at these public performances!

Studio Productions:
Sadly, we didn’t make the deadline for having the CD of An Atlanta Christmas for the holidays this year. Our desire to bring you a quality product won out over our desire to make a quick buck on the season.

We are still planning studio time for the new year, though, so look for all kinds of goodies to be released soon!

And don’t forget our already extensive catalog!

ARTC Podcast:
The ARTC podcast for November featured, fresh from our Dragon*Con show, the second part of The Call of Cthulhu by H. P. Lovecraft, adapted for audio by Ron N. Butler. If you missed it at Dragon*Con AND at the Academy Theatre, here’s your chance. But I have to tell you…we really missed you at those shows. Up next for December, a really low-key podcast that will feature a bit of holiday poetry by Doug Kaye and a touching song by Juliana Finch!

Tune in on the second Thursday of each month at 8pm for more free audio drama from ARTC!

• A bunch of big-name actors have gotten together to do a full-on audio adaptation of the Bible. Could this be what it takes to make audio drama popular in the US again?

ARTC has had dozens, if not hundreds, of members in its run since 1984, and they don’t just do radio drama. Look for these ARTC members in performances around the Atlanta area…and beyond!
