Breaking Radio Silence - 2009-04-07

Breaking Radio Silence - The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company Newsletter

Bookmark and Share

Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter, published on or around the first Tuesday of each month!  The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let’s begin with news about…

Studio Productions:
It’s been about two years since ARTC’s last studio release and we’re looking to correct that this year. Right now we’re putting the finishing touches on the long-awaited CD release of Rory Rammer, Space Marshal. In the meantime, allow us to whet your appetites with some outtakes from the studio sessions. (Outtakes link available exclusively to newsletter subscribers!  Sign up to get the latest news about ARTC and great content like this!)

These are being made available exclusively to subscribers of Breaking Radio Silence…not even the podcast gets this kind of content. And if you like it, let us know and we’ll be sure to include more like it in the future!

In the meantime, don’t forget our already extensive catalog!
Think CDs are old hat? ARTC is available by download at Audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon!

Live Performances:
Thanks to everyone who came out to our kickoff event for our 25th Anniversary! Bits of it will be showing up on the podcast for the next few months and pictures are also available in the Gallery!

ARTC founder William L. Brown hosts the kickoff for the 25th Anniversary Event!

We’re just getting started on celebrating a quarter-century of great audio drama and intend to carry the celebration throughout this year, so stay tuned for new shows and other exciting announcements.

Our next confirmed live performances are at LibertyCon on July 11th and Dragon*Con on September 4-7.

We’re in negotiations to have a second season at the Academy Theatre, so look for news about that soon!

Getting Involved:
ARTC will be hosting its first ever art contest beginning with next month’s newsletter! Watch this space for details on how you can create the next ARTC promotional poster and cover art and win fabulous prizes to boot!

Ever wanted to help out ARTC but you weren’t sure how? Email us and let us know! There’s all kinds of things that can be done from anywhere in the world. Or if you have an idea for something you’d like to help out with, let us know that, too! We’re always eager to welcome new people into our fold in whatever way works best for them!

ARTC Podcast:
The ARTC podcast for March included another installment from Mildly Exciting Tales of Astonishment: Baby Boom, by Jonathan Strickland, fresh from the 25th Anniversary performance. Next up for April we’ll bring you a special favorite of ours, and we hope yours as well, Blues for Johnny Raven, by Thomas E. Fuller. Longtime listeners will recognize this piece as being the 5th show we ever put up on the podcast…we even re-ran it during our extended hiatus. This time, however, we are pleased to present the version performed in March for our 25th Anniversary kickoff. Featuring Daniel W. Kiernan as Johnny Raven, Fiona K. Leonard as Gloria Kinsolving, and Mary Buchanan on live saxophone, this piece demonstrates as few others can the power of the audio medium and the evolution of ARTC as a live performance company.

Tune in on the second Thursday of each month at 8pm for more free audio drama from ARTC!

Snippets from the Static:

Haven’t heard Ask Mr. Omniscient or Unresolved Mysteries: UFO Abductions? Want to? Let us know and we’ll add them to the list of upcoming podcasts!
Off-dial Programming:
ARTC has had dozens, if not hundreds, of members in its run since 1984, and they don’t just do radio drama. Look for these ARTC members in performances around the Atlanta area!

Former ARTC President Geoffrey M. Brown in his new production company, Dancing Monkey Cabaret! Next show: April 24-26 at the Academy Theatre.
ARTC member Jayne Lockhart will be appearing in “Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure” with the Town and Gown Players in Athens, GA! Show dates are April 17-19 and April 23-26.
Longtime ARTC members Clair W. Kiernan and Daniel W. Kiernan will be singing at a recital for students of John Sabine on Saturday May 9 at 5:00pm at the First Christian Church of Decatur.
