Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter, published on or around the first Tuesday of each month!  The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let’s begin with news about…

Live Performances:
LibertyCon is nearly upon us and the lineup has been (mostly) set! This year we are pleased to bring the following audio dramas to our good friends in Chattanooga, TN:

Our Fair City by Robert A. Heinlein
A newspaper reporter takes on corrupt city officials with the help of a retired newsstand operator, a photographer, and…a pet whirlwind named Kitten.
Omnilingual by H. Beam Piper
Mars is being explored and a once-thriving civilization has been discovered. But with the Martians long gone, how can we decipher their now-dead language?
Rory Rammer, Space Marshal: Enemies Within! by Ron N. Butler
In this brand new episode of our longest running and most popular series, a disgraced politician from Rory’s first adventure as a Space Marshal comes back to haunt him. Featuring characters first introduced in Rory Rammer, Space Marshal: Luna Shall be Dry!

We’re also gearing up for Dragon*Con on September 4-7.
And finally, we are extremely excited to announce our second season at the Academy Theatre.
October 24-25 - The Call of C’thulhu by H. P. Lovecraft, adapted for audio by Ron N. Butler
December 5-6 - An Atlanta Christmas created by Thomas E. Fuller, expanded by the authors of the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company
March 27-28 - The Last Dragon to Avondale by Thomas E. Fuller

More details to be included in future newsletters. As always, expect more great audio drama and musical guests at these public performances!

The First ARTC art contest!
The deadline is approaching! It’s a tight race! Actually…nobody has entered. With these fabulous prizes I can only hope that people are waiting until the submission deadline to get their work in, but if that’s the case go ahead and send us an email letting us know so we’ll be on the lookout for it. Pass this along to your fast-working artist friends and let’s see what you can do! Here are the details again…

ARTC is well known for its adaptations of H. P. Lovecraft’s classic horror. With adaptations of At the Mountains of Madness, The Dunwich Horror, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, and The Rats in the Walls in our CD collection and The Colour Out of Space in our live production catalog we thought we’d return to one of our earliest adaptations, The Call of C’thulhu. Originally adapted by Gerald W. Page and performed at the first Dragon*Con in 1987, the script has, unfortunately, been lost. Ron N. Butler, creator of Rory Rammer and adapter of The Colour Out of Space, among other outstanding new audio dramas, has agreed to do a brand new adaptation for us, which we will present as part of our 25th Anniversary celebration at Dragon*Con 2009.

We’d like for YOU to create the promotional poster and, eventually, CD cover art for this project. Here are the specifics:

  • Artwork should be portrait style, 3.75″ x 7.5″ with a “live” area of 3.25″ x 7″.
  • Submissions should be in jpg, gif, or png format, emailed to art@artc.org. Questions may be sent here as well.
  • Submissions should depict your vision of the short story The Call of C’thulhu by H. P. Lovecraft and must be your original work. We’ll fill in our logo, name, and showtimes afterwards.
  • Once a winner has been selected, a final version should be provided as a high-res Photoshop (psd) or TIF file of at least 300dpi.
  • One winner will receive the entire H. P. Lovecraft ARTC CD collection as well as a copy of the new Rory Rammer, Space Marshal CD.
  • Three runners-up will receive a copy of the new Rory Rammer, Space Marshal CD.
  • Artwork will be properly credited, but becomes the property of the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company.
  • Submission deadline: June 7, 2009

Studio Productions:
In addition to the new Rory Rammer CD that will be coming out very soon, we’re also pleased to announce that our storytelling release, Tales From the Dark River will be on Audible.com soon! We’re also hard at work on An Atlanta Christmas, Throne of Shadows, and we’re looking into some opportunities that will enable us to get our material out there faster and better than before.

And for you new subscribers, once again here’s the link to the outtakes from the studio sessions for Rory Rammer. These are being made available exclusively to subscribers of Breaking Radio Silence…not even the podcast gets this kind of content. And if you like it, let us know and we’ll be sure to include more like it in the future!

In the meantime, don’t forget our already extensive catalog!

Think CDs are old hat? ARTC is available by download at Audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon!

Breaking Radio Silence - The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company Newsletter

Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter, published on or around the first of each month!  The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let’s begin with news about…

Happy New Year!
Ok, now that that’s out of the way…

Goals:
As the tired old cliche goes, 2008 has come and gone. We set some lofty goals for ourselves this year and we achieved many of them. One of the big ones is one that all of you helped out with, we purchased a sound effects library. This is a major achievement for us and we have big plans for bigger, richer soundscapes through the use of this new tool as well as custom sound effects that we will record ourselves. Thanks to everyone who donated to help us with this project. What’s up for 2009? Why don’t you tell us? Write to us and tell us what you want to hear out of the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company. After all, we’re here for you.

Live Performances:
We’d also like to thank everyone who came out to see An Atlanta Christmas this past December. It was well received and a success by all measures. Thanks to your generosity at this pay-what-you-can event, we were able to donate $160 to the Center for the Visually Impaired here in Atlanta. The Christmas show has moved around a lot in the last few years, but we hope that the Academy Theatre will continue to host us for the foreseeable future.

Next up, ARTC’s love affair with the city of Chattanooga, just over the TN/GA border continues. We’ve been performing at LibertyCon for the last several years and now we’re making our first ever appearance at Chattacon on January 24 where we plan to reprise our performance of The Colour Out of Space by H. P. Lovecraft, adapted for audio by Ron N. Butler, as well as The Gargoyle’s Shadow by Katherine Kurtz, adapted for audio by Daniel Taylor. We’re also trying to squeeze in a seldom-heard episode of Rory Rammer, Space Marshal, so stay tuned for that.

Following Chattacon, ARTC returns to the Academy Theatre for our 25th Anniversary Spectacular. It’s so spectacular that we’re dazzled by the light of the radio dial and haven’t picked all the programming yet, but I can tell you that we will feature Thomas E. Fuller’s Blues for Johnny Raven: The Ambience Man and also musical guest Juliana Finch. Here’s all the details:

ARTC 25th Anniversary Spectacular
March 7, 8:00 pm - March 8, 2:30 pm
Academy Theatre
119 Center St.
Avondale Estates, GA 30002
Tickets: $10
Box office: 404-474-8332

Handy reference link for the ARTC performance calendar.

Studio Productions:
Going back to the goals section of the newsletter just briefly, ARTC hasn’t had a studio release since Special Order came out in 2006 (coincidence??). This year we resolve to do better. There are several things right on the verge of completion and we hope to have available for you this year the long-awaited releases of An Atlanta Christmas, Throne of Shadows, Country of the Blind, and the often-rumored collection of Rory Rammer, Space Marshal, featuring four of our favorite episodes!
In the meantime, don’t forget our already extensive catalog!

Think CDs are old hat? ARTC is available by download at Audible.com, iTunes, and Amazon!

ARTC Podcast:
The ARTC podcast for December featured three new additions to An Atlanta Christmas. Rudolphium by Cyd Hoskinson, Christmas on the High Seas by Jonathan Strickland, and Christmas Rose by Kelley S. Ceccato. This month, to kick off the 25th Anniversary of ARTC, we will bring you the newest episode of Rory Rammer, Space Marshal: The Atomic Graveyard. Tune in on the second Thursday of each month at 8pm for more free audio drama from ARTC!

Snippets from the Static:
Anyone familiar with our long-running series Bumpers Crossroads is probably also familiar with that show’s long-running sponsor, Collins’ Best Coffee, that special concentrated blend that gives you more of what you drink coffee for. Looks like in the future you might be able to get Collins’ Best for your car!

Some time back, ARTC did an adaptation of Terry Pratchett’s wonderful novel, Guards! Guards!, which was later podcast in three parts. He has now been granted knighthood. Coincidence?? …probably. Congratulations, Sir Terry Pratchett!

Off-dial Programming:
ARTC has had dozens, if not hundreds, of members in its run since 1984, and they don’t just do radio drama. Look for these ARTC members in performances around the Atlanta area!

Doug Kaye returns to the role of Friar Lawrence in William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet at the New American Shakespeare Tavern, January 31-March 1.. He promises spectacular swordplay, so make a point of attending!

Former ARTC President Geoffrey M. Brown in his new production company, Dancing Monkey Cabaret!

Breaking Radio Silence - The Atlanta Radio Theatre Company Newsletter

Greetings everyone and welcome to the ARTC newsletter!  The purpose of a newsletter is to bring news, so let’s begin with news about…

Holiday gift-giving:
We hope everyone had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. As we all gear up for the holiday season, we’d like to remind you to give the gift of imagination with the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company. CDs are available by mail order at artc.org or you can download from Audible.com, iTunes, and now Amazon!

But that’s not all! Planning to give something that we don’t sell? You can support ARTC without costing yourself any extra money by visiting artc.org first and using us as your portal to Amazon.

Live Performances:
ARTC’s next live performances will be Saturday, December 6 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, December 7 at 2:30 pm. We will perform our annual presentation of An Atlanta Christmas conceived by Thomas E. Fuller and written by the various authors of the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company. This performance, one of our perennial favorites, has been performed at venues as diverse as high schools, Eddie’s Attic, and even a hair salon! Come celebrate the Magic of Christmas with the Magic of Radio and this charming story of the season as seen through Southern eyes.

An Atlanta Christmas
December 6, 8:00 pm - December 7, 2:30 pm
Academy Theatre
119 Center St.
Avondale Estates, GA 30002
This performance is FREE, but donations are accepted with a suggested donation of $10. 25% of all donations collected at the door will go to the Center for the Visually Impaired here in Atlanta.

Studio Productions:
Studio productions are tricky beasts. You think you’re about done with one and suddenly Real Life intervenes and you’re set back quite a bit. Suffice to say that for the upcoming 25th Anniversary year of ARTC we have the potential to release several new CDs including Throne of Shadows by Thomas E. Fuller, An Atlanta Christmas by Thomas E. Fuller, as well as All You Zombies…by Robert A. Heinlein if all goes according to plan. Stay tuned.

In the meantime, don’t forget our already extensive catalog! Original audio drama makes a great gift this holiday season.

ARTC Podcast:
The ARTC podcast this month features a two-fer! Nothing-at-All by Kelley S. Ceccato, divided into two parts, both parts offered one week apart from each other. We’ve kicked off the holiday season by giving you the gift of not having to wait until next month for the concluding chapter in the story! Tune in each month for more free audio drama from ARTC!

In other news:

ARTC has been invited to Chattacon! More information in next month’s newsletter!
